An Unexpected Bond

These gentlemen meet to discuss Quincy’s case, identify how to set him free and are an inspiration of what can be accomplished when emotion is set aside and justice is pursued.

Pictured from left to right: Mr. John Poole, Mr. Joe Currin, Mr. John Lawson, Mr. David Cross, and Mr. Jeffrey Burton.

  • Mr. John Poole: He has been in law enforcement for over 30 years a, serving in California and Kentucky. He did not miss a day of Quincy’s trial and is determined to find the truth and see justice for Quincy. He is, most importantly, Jeffrey Burton’s uncle, and is working to exonerate him.
  • Mr. Joe Currin: He is Jessica’s father and last saw his daughter when he picked up his grandson the evening of July 29, 2000. He served on the Mayfield Fire Department for more than 20 years; he was even the chief of the fire department. He sought justice for his daughter by conducting marches and contacting different Kentucky attorney generals. He still seeks justice, not just for his daughter, but Quincy as well.
  • Mr. John Lawson: He is a civil rights advocate and educated everyone he could about Quincy’s case. He cared and raised Tamara Caldwell’s children while she was on trial and imprisoned. Tamara Caldwell was Quincy’s co-defendant who took an Alford plea to receive a lesser sentence. She served 5 years, 8 months, and 5 days in prison for a crime she did not commit.
  • Mr. David Cross: He is Quincy’s father. He stands by his son’s innocence and fights in every way he can to free him from prison. He resides in western Tennessee and is known as Pawpaw to his grandchildren, hoping one day he can be Pawpaw to Quincy’s children.
  • Mr. Jeffrey Burton: He was a co-defendant of Quincy’s. He did not meet Quincy until the day they were arrested; even then, they have never spoken. He served 7 years in prison for a crime he did not commit.
  • Mr. Noble Faulkner (not pictured): He has dedicated the past 10 years of his life to solving this crime. He was born, raised and currently resides in Mayfield. Without his assistance, Quincy’s case would not have the information it has nor be making the progress towards Quincy’s freedom.
